Hello! Thank you for dropping by my blog, where I share my work and connect with the handmade community. I’ve been crafting since way back when I was a school girl. I used to be a professional translator. Having worked with text written by somebody else on the computer for more than twenty years, I found myself yearning for something more creative, something that would allow me to make pretty things with my hands, definitely not something that requires me to be in front of the screen all day long. If that something would calm my mind and be theraputic, even better. The answer is Vera Jim Design Studio.
I’m always intrigued by origami, the Japanese art form of paper folding and often incorporate it into my personal paper projects (repeat three times after me, please!). Then I thought if I like it so much, maybe I can turn it into something more than a hobby. With that in mind, I did some research, tried out a few different ideas and finally decided on my niche (it seems everything is about niches nowadays) – handmade origami-insipred paper goods for special occasions.

There are many many talented origami artists and successful stationers out there. I’ve been learning quite a bit from them. I practice and make things for family and friends. They keep encouraging me to open my own shop and sell my creations. I dared not even think about it, until recently. Once I’ve decided to go for it, I needed to figure out whether to go the Etsy route or my own website. I believe listing on Etsy has more benefits at the startup stage of my business. Setting up an etsy shop is a huge step forward to me. Other than selling finished invitation suites, favor boxes, and personal stationery sets, I’m also planning to list diy kits and templates.

I’m super excited about this chapter of my creative journey. And I welcome you to tag along and cheer me on. Ready, set, origami!
